A Life of Purpose

Nothing is random in the Christian world view.

True Christian believers believe God is in charge of everything from the largest matter to the most trivial thing. Scripture says that not even a sparrow falls to the ground without God’s awareness. Look at all the sparrows and how dispensable they are to us, but we are specifically told He is aware of every single one of them.

That leads naturally enough to the question of purpose. If nothing is random, then everything has purpose. If everything has purpose, what is the purpose in those things that seem counterproductive or difficult?

That’s more than I know. Some time in the future, we may be able to look back and see some of the good that came of our hardships and trials, but we can never know everything on this side and we can never know in any given moment what the ultimate purpose of that moment is. If we could, then we would be God and I most definitely am not God.

I know the Disciples asked the question of purpose in the days between the crucifixion and the resurrection. Why, if Jesus was only going to die at the young age of 33 without appearing to accomplish anything but miracles, did Jesus make the glorious promises He made?

But after the resurrection….

In the centuries since, those who name the Name of Christ have seen and understood that particular purpose.

Regardless of how clear or murky any given situation may seem, there is a purpose in it and there is One who knows what the purpose is.

Indeed, One who can see through the murk that blinds us. All we need do is trust and move forward in faith.
