Book Review – The Harbinger

The Harbinger, by Jonathan Cahn

Is it possible…

That there exists an ancient mystery that holds the secret of America’s future? That this mystery is behind everything from 9/11 to the collapse of the global economy? That God is now sending a prophetic message on which America’s future hangs?

Ordinarily, I don’t post book reviews on Sundays. If I post anything, it’s a sermon written by myself or my husband or a link to a message from someone else that impacted me.

But this book is different.

Much different.

I first heard about The Harbinger from a friend, who sent me a link to an interview with Jonathan Cahn on The Olive Tree Ministries. After listening to the full hour, I knew I had to read the book.

I started reading around 9:30 or 10 in the evening of June 27. I finished at 3:40 a.m. Thursday, June 28. I didn’t read the entire book in one setting, but I may as well have. Once I started the book, sleep was a vain expectation.

The message of this book is chilling and hopeful.

Chilling because it presents a stunning comparison of the last days of ancient Israel and current events in the US. While I agree with Cahn that Israel is the only nation chosen of God, it’s impossible to deny the manner in which the events of our day line up with the events of ancient Israel’s last days.

Hopeful because along with dire warnings and signals that are clear enough for anyone who cares to acknowledge them, it presents the ever-present offer of mercy and redemption for any who care to accept it.

The story is written as a novel and features three characters. But the information provided within its pages is factual and documented. However you may interpret them, there is no getting around the facts. Cahn presents end notes citing the sources of information to provide the foundation for his assertion that God is attempting to get the attention of the American people.

So I offer this book and encourage you to read it for yourself. If you do, it will be the best Sunday Sermon I can offer.
