The genre of cozy mystery is fairly new in the Christian market. I’ve long been familiar with the original cozy mystery market through the writings of Agatha Christie and others whose work I have always enjoyed.
And although I’d never seen a cozy Christian mystery, I have always considered most of my work to fall into that category and was delighted to discover that genre in the Christian market last fall. I began making plans to write, write, write!
But I have not read any of those authors, so I decided tonight to find an author and buy a book.
A single stop at Perfect Peace East was all it took. A very helpful clerk there had read a Kansas author whose work fit into that category and which she liked quite well.
Twenty minutes later, I left the store with Cozy in Kansas, a collection of three mysteries by local author Nancy Mehl.
And I do mean ‘local’. Nancy lives in Wichita, Kansas, 35 miles to the south of where I live. What a surprise that was! When I first moved to Kansas in 2002, I was amazed by the variety of art forms and the number of artists in this part of the country.
I continue to be amazed by the number of authors who also live within this rectangle of real estate called Kansas. I’m very pleased to be among their numbers!
At the time of this writing, I’ve only read a paragraph or two while Neal was putting gas in the car, but I’m already looking forward to really sinking my teeth into Nancy’s stories.
If you’re looking for a good read, you might want to check out some of Nancy’s books.
In the meantime, there’s a cup of hot tea and a good book waiting for me…!
